Choral Society

The Leicester Grammar School Choral Society

The Choral Society, about 100 strong, is a mixture of pupils, staff, parents, friends and people from the local community. It rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm during the Lent Term and gives a concert towards the end of the term with the school’s First Orchestra.

Works performed over the years include Carmina Burana by Orff, masses by Haydn and Beethoven, Mozart’s Requiem, The Creation by Haydn, Requiem and Feel the Spirit by John Rutter, Benjamin Britten's St Nicolas, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and the music of Ivor Novello. Last year’s concert included Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan Williams and Songs of the Fleet by Stanford.

New members are always welcome. There is no audition process or subscription, but members are expected to provide their own music.

In 2018 we shall perform famous choruses from opera. These will all come from Opera Choruses, edited by John Rutter, and published by Oxford University Press in the Oxford Choral Classics series (ISBN: 9780193436930) at £16.50.

If we do not have your email address or other contact details, or if you wish to receive further details of the choir and other musical activities at the school, please contact Janet Carter at carterj@leicestergrammar.org.uk or on 0116 2591966 (mornings only).
