It gives me great pleasure to introduce Leicester Grammar School's Annual
Fund. I am delighted to have this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate
all the support given to us this academic year.
I hope the Annual Fund will be a very successful initiative. It should enable
the participation of a large number of donors whose gifts will make a
substantial difference to the opportunities offered to our students. I hope
that you will feel able to support this year's projects.
The move to our new site at Great Glen has been the catalyst for a significant
number of individuals and Trusts to make generous donations to Leicester
Grammar School. In many cases the donations have been spent in areas
identified as being of particular interest to the donor. In other instances
there was no such obvious link although the same strong underlying motivation
to help the school in some way was clearly in the thinking behind the gift.
In order to channel such giving it is proposed to create an Annual Fund as an
appeal made each year to every single member of the Leicester Grammar School
Trust family of Parents, Staff, the Friends of LGS, Trustees, Patrons, Old
Leicestrians and other friends of the School.
The aim of the Annual fund will be to provide the resources to fund a range of projects most
of which are relatively modest and achievable in cost terms, although there
will also be one or two more ambitious projects. The aim will be to enhance
and broaden the life and educational development of our pupils through added
facilities.
Allocation of Donations
All the money raised each year is allocated according to the preferences and
wishes of the donors. You may give an amount that is meaningful to you but not
a burden. Participation is the key, not the level of generosity. Given tax
effectively through the Gift Aid system, the value of your gift can be
increased. Under the Gift Aid scheme, charities can reclaim an extra 25% in
tax on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Between 6 April 2008 and 5
April 2011, the government will also give UK charities an extra 3% of all
eligible donations. This ‘transitional relief’ does not affect your personal
tax position. If you pay tax at the higher rate, you can reclaim tax relief on
your gross donation at 20% (ie the difference between the higher rate of tax
at 40% and the basic rate at 20%).
The gift will be spent on the projects earmarked for this year’s Annual Fund.
You may also wish to allow us to decide for you by selecting the project
"Wherever the School needs it most" choice.

How to proceed
We have decided to use JustGiving.com as the main channel for raising funds.
The main reason for this, apart from the convenience, is that they have solved
the problem of automating the process of Gift Aid reclaim so that every
donation is worth more, and costs less to administer, for the Trust. Their
processes have been audited and approved by HMRC.
Each of our annual fund projects has its own fundraising page on the
"JustGiving" website and you can click straight through to the relevant page
via the "Donate Now" button. By having separate fundraising pages it is
possible to see exactly how much money is raised for each project. There is
also a fundraising page which is called the "Wherever the school needs it most"
project - specifically for those people who are happy to trust the school
to allocate the donation to the project that needs it most at the time of
receipt.

When you donate, you will be asked to confirm whether or not you are a UK
taxpayer. Please note that tax can only be reclaimed on donations made by
individuals who pay UK income or capital gains tax at least equal to the
amount reclaimed on their donations in the current tax year.
Alternatively donations can be made directly by cheque made out to Leicester
Grammar School. Ideally, any donation should be accompanied by a Gift Aid
form which is available to
download here. Please indicate
which of the projects you would like to support on the form.
