The School Day

School is open from 7.45am for those pupils being dropped off early and they can go into the refectory for breakfast. Anyone then arriving after 8am must wait outside the main entrance. The school day begins at 8.25 am, when you go to your locker to drop off your bags and then you are required to be in your form room for registration at 8.30am. At 8.40 am you will either:
  • Go to assembly.
  • Spend 20 minutes with your Form Tutor.
  • Go to your house meeting.
Lessons then begin at 9.00 am.

At Leicester Grammar School you will find that most subjects are taught by a different teacher and you will be moving from classroom to classroom. Year 6 will have many of their lessons taught within the Year 6 base, but will move for some lessons to specialist rooms.

There will be nine periods in each school day which will be organised as shown below:

Practical subjects will often have double periods.

School finishes at 3.50pm and the school buses leave at 4.05pm. For more information of the school buses, click here.

LATE ROOM

After school, pupils may work in the Library until 5.00pm. Any pupils remaining after that time will then go to the Foyer, where a receptionist will be on duty until 5.30pm when the late bus leaves. After this time there will be no supervision for students.

LUNCH

Pupils can either buy lunch in the refectory or they can bring in a packed lunch. They come to eat by rota according to year group and there is a wide selection for pupils to choose from - from a salad bar, fresh sandwiches/wraps, homemade soups, baked potatoes to several hot food choices. There are always vegetarian options. Pupils pay for their lunch using our biometric system and they can always access their accounts so they can see when the balance needs "topping up". This can be done by sending in a cheque to the accounts dept. stating the pupils name and form and the word "Food" on the reverse or by feeding money into the reval machine situated in the refectory.

As of September 2010, Sodexo will be providing the catering at LGS. Their Independent Schools division has over 50 years' experience within independent schools and they are very much looking forward to their new association with Leicester Grammar School. They actively welcome comments about both the service and the food and they can be contacted at 0116 2591936 or paul.woodward@sodexo.com .
